Halloween night comes once a year…

Godzilla, King Kong, and Mothra

…and our boy loved it as much as we knew he would. He did eventually decide, “I have enough candy. Let’s go home.” (His bucket was pretty full, and we were on our way home by then, so it worked out.) Two different people asked him if he was a kangaroo, which he did not find amusing, so he started telling people up front, right behind “Trick or Treat.” He also argued with one man that “Godzilla is not a dinosaur–he’s a monster!” for several minutes before I was able to drag him away. Maybe next year we should steer him toward a little more obvious costume!

P.S. The title of this post is the first line from Grant’s favorite song on the CD of kids’ Halloween music we’ve been listening to non-stop for the past three weeks. You should hear him sing it. Actually, if you spend more than a few minutes with him, you almost certainly will!

P.S.S. No, there are no pictures of Kirk without the mask. I know, I know. (Smyrna gang, did you really think Mr. Dibbles wouldn’t make another appearance at some point?)

  1. Grant looks like Godzilla to me, and he has to be the cutest little Godzilla I have ever seen! What is the name of the Halloween CD? My girls would love listening to it next year. I think we are about to move right into the holidays and break out the Christmas CD’s. I cannot wait to hear what Grant’s favorite Christmas song will be. Is there a song about Christmas and dinosaurs? If not, I am sure he can make one up!

Thanks for allowing us to share in your fun!

Love and prayers your way from Alabama,

  3. I’m with Grant, what is the matter with people it is perfectly clear that he is Godzilla!! Of course that has to be Kirk dressed as King Kong I guess(???) Natalie as Mothra, nobody could be a better one. Glad to see that everyone had a good time. I guess there is a count down on for next Halloween by Grant!
Glad to see the smiles on all of your faces, I guess that is what is on Kirk’s face!!!

  4. What fun to see the picture, and WE KNOW who Godzilla is, Grant-and you were the perfect one! N & K, don’t eat too much of Grant’s candy-only the ones he doesn’t like! Thanks for the update, and we are so glad you had a good “trick or treat”! Love, Betty Rigby

  5. What a wonderful entry. I have felt so low recently tand this entry filled my heart with joy and made me smile. What an amazing little boy. He will never, I expect, know, just how much he keeps you strong – I can see it in your smile.

  6. Natalie and Kirk,

Thanks so much for posting the pics. It really looks like y’all had a great time! Of course, it was no surprise to see Kirk in the gorilla mask! That’s what we’re used to! Grant looked so cute in his costume. I didn’t even get to see McLain or Keaton because Henry and I went to Clemson for homecoming. Sunday was Jeff’s 20th anniversary as a youth minister! I’m sure you both know how rare it is to have a youth minister at a church for as long as Jeff has been there. We had a make your own ice cream sundae reception for him on Sunday night and a lot of the young folks who were there when he first came, came to the reception. Wish y’all could have been there. We miss you, love you, and think of you and the grieving you’re going through. We will continue to keep you in our prayers.

  10. LOL ya’ll are the biggest goobers ever! I’m really cracking up and I’m laughing at the picture of Grant holding a debate on the porch of some man who should have received a disclaimer before daring to diss this young child’s hero. Grant has to be one of the funniest kids I know!

  14. Great family picture. Grant sure does look like Godzilla, don’t know what that guy was thinking. Just tell him to keep standing his ground and not to waiver in his beliefs. Kong does,t look so scary though. Hope things are getting easier for you guys and maybe we’ll meet up soon.

  15. a friends son was Godzilla for a few years at Halloween. He got so upset when he was called a dinosaur that my friend made a sign on a little stick saying “Godzilla” and discretely held it up behind his head at the houses they visited…thanks for rekindling those memories!

  17. Thank you for your strength- it helped us through a tough night. I love that Grant wanted to lick the brownie batter off his sock.
